In this emotional filled drama, Nicholas Cage stars as Joe, an average hillbilly who lives in the south. He lives his normal every day life by being a tree killer and has a hooker on the side while he has a nonexclusive girlfriend. Everything turns topsy-turvy though when newcomer fifteen-year-old Gary moves to town with his strange family. With a bum as a dad, a mute sister, and a cracked out mom, Gary tries his best to provide for his family. It doesn't help though when he gets pushed and shoved by his alcoholic and psychotic father. Joe, who's witnessed an episode between Gary and his father, can't help but have fatherly instincts for Gary afterwords. Things go awry when Gary's father goes a little bit too far though. The intense filled music doesn't help when it comes to the catharsis to this movie. The most audience will throw at this movie are tomatoes at the father, because he is that demented. Even though, the accents may be heavy in this movie, it's still powerful to hear the love coming from someone you care about.
My Rating: A+++
