Chappie

In this action packed movie, robots are part of the police force, but it doesn't stop there. Viewers are automatically thrown into a scene where musical members of Die Antwoord (Ninja and Yolandi) are being held at gun point, because they owe money to a really intimidating guy. In order to get the money, the group decides to target the scientist who made the robots, Deon Wilson (Dev Patel.) While being intimidated by Ninja and Yolandi, Deo makes Chappie, the first robot that can think for himself. Viewers can see throughout the movie that he has developed a sense of self and he wants others to know. But with the mixture of Ninja wanting him to be able to hold a gun and Yolandi wanting him to do whatever makes him happy, Chappie turns into a robot Deo does not like. Even though Yolandi thinks of herself as the mother of Chappie and Ninja as the father, Deo is considered his maker. It is not as complicated as it may seem. The actors of this movie are obviously not good actors, but effort was put forth especially to help hold the interesting story that was being told about Chappie.

Rated R for language, intense scenes, and brief nudity.

My Rating: C
