There's a difference between a dad and a father. In this movie, Will Ferrell plays the role of the dad, step-dad actually. Brad Whitaker (Will Ferrell) was just starting to get accepted into the family when the biological father comes into town, and he's badass. Dusty Mayron (Mark Wahlberg) is everything Brad isn't: tough, rough, and just a bit cooler than Brad. Brad, on the other hand, is more in touch with touchy-feely stuff like trying to get to know his stepkids, working at a smooth jazz radio station, and even has a Ford Flex. It's not until when Brad feels like Dusty is trying to kick him out of his own family and taking back what he thinks is rightfully his when things get a little interesting. With all the cute emotional scenes with the kids, this movie hits that tickle nerve every viewer has. Whether it's the ridiculous special effects when driving a motorcycle through the house or getting electrified by trying to outdo Dusty in skateboarding, the movie can be entertaining especially when it comes to families who are trying to incorporate someone new. It definitely gives the meaning of family is worth fighting far more depth.
*Rated PG-13 for sexual references, a little of violence, language, alcohol, and somewhat frightening/intense scenes.
My Rating: B
