Can I just say this movie is so cute from beginning to end? I have never watched a movie from Disney's Pixar that's never cute. Anyways, so young Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias) has always been a happy child due to the fact that her emotion Joy (Amy Poehler) has always had her hand on the wheel. Viewers can definitely tell that her emotions run Riley, because they literally are forced within her head every other scene, and it's interesting seeing how our emotions go through our heads especially emotions like sadness, fear, anger, and disgust (My favorite is sadness for numerous reasons.) It was not until Riley had to move away from the one place she calls home, her friends, and her hockey team when Sadness (Phyllis Smith) decides to touch her memories, which in this movie come in the shape of small glass balls. When this happens, viewers see another emotion come out and coming from Joy surprisingly: selfishness. When Joy tries to keep Sadness from touching Riley's core memories, which make Riley's personality, they end up on the other side of Riley's mind and not a good one. I'm sure parents and some kids have gone through things like a giant move or something of the sort, and when something like this happens, kids can sometimes take the event negatively, which is what happened to Riley since Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader), and Anger (Lewis Black) were put behind the wheel until Joy and Sadness came back. What adds more to this movie is the scenes that put viewers in other people's emotion headquarters, which was very entertaining especially Riley's mom and dad. It's definitely an adventure just watching the emotions scramble about in Riley. Inside Out is definitely a movie that is great for the entire family.
*Rated PG for mild thematic elements and some action.
