We've seen Matt Damon in countless movies: The Bourne series, Elysium, Interstellar, We Bought a Zoo, Saving Private Ryan, etc. In The Martian, Damon portrays yet another spectacular role as Astronaut Mark Watney. Watney and his fellow astronauts were exploring Mars when a terrible dust storm separates the group making the group go back home without Watney thinking he's dead. Fortunately, Watney is alive but doesn't have that much to live for long on the Red Planet. With his training from NASA and general knowledge, Watney starts to build his own food and water. While at the same time, NASA doesn't know he's alive until it was brought to their attention from Watney himself. This movie is so amazing, because it captivates the days passing by for Watney and how much he has to eat in order to conserve the food he's made for himself. The depth in this movie cannot be explained. And if you can, watch this movie in HD. It definitely captivates the dust from the dusty planet. With a cast like Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, I'm not surprised that I enjoyed this movie. It has the adventure viewers can go through especially those intense scenes like when his crops gets blown up on accident. It even has the sci-fi nerds like me can enjoy. It does have scenes from NASA so the geek in me does come out whenever it comes knowing Sols and other terminology when it comes to astrology, but this movie is great for all types of people.
*Rated PG-13 for some strong language, injury images, and brief nudity.
My Rating: A+
