Okay. First thing first, this movie is so adorable to the point that it's kind of like Inside Out in a way only it's a little boy instead of a little girl. As for the rest of the movie, I want to congratulate the writers and producers of this movie, because the look of pure imagination and visualization is amazing. Young Max (Max Records) is a crazy and wild spirit who just loves to have fun and make sure to have the time of his life, but when life is filled with things that he can't change, he starts to retreat somewhere far beyond his imagination. It is kind of strange seeing your older sister enter a weird stage of her life where all she wants to do is hang out with her friends or having to see your single mother with someone else even if it is Mark Ruffalo. Anyways, in the land where Things wander, Max bumps into Carol (James Gandolfini) a carefree Thing who seems to have some similar characteristics Max inhibits. Not only does he meet Carol but a whole bunch of other Things. The characters Max bumps into makes me think of the emotions in Riley's head when in Inside Out only in this movie, they're Things with horns, bulgy eyes, and extremities only Max can get used to. With Max as their king, the Things start to make something they thought they wouldn't have again: a home where they can sleep in a pile. Need I also mention the beauty that's in the music? It's so simple and melodic that a child can easily hum it. This movie has outdone it's children's book counterpart, and it's amazing.
*Rated PG for mild thematic elements, some adventure action, and brief language.
My Rating: A+
