I've never been a fan of romance movies, because well, I just don't like crying when it comes to movies. I'd rather be scared than crying in the movie theaters. Anyways, in this romance movie, Landon Carter (Shane West) has always been the bad boy and part of the in crowd. It's just after punking a kid, he has to expand his horizons and meet new people for his community service. He doesn't meet new people though. He gets to know Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) more since they both knew each other while growing up. She's the girl who sits by herself at lunch. She's the reverend's daughter. She's intriguing to Landon, and after being roped in to be one of the leads in the school play, Landon can't help but feel connected to Jamie and her faith. Viewers can already tell what's going to happen. They fall in love and live happily ever after, but there's always that little plot twist that I like about this movie, and it makes viewers guess what's going on. Like I said, I am normally not a sucker for a lot of romance movies, but this one touches the heart since Jamie does talk about her faith when it comes to little things especially people. Oh. There are some religious mentions in the movie, but instead of having God smite Landon because he's sinful, the talk about faith makes everyone think about what they believe in: their ambitions, themselves, and especially others around them. Let's also not forget that Shane West does look like one of those teen heartthrobs from the early 2000's. It does come to show though; people can change other people for the better.
*Rated PG for thematic elements, language and some sensual material.
