There are lovers. There are Gods. One God was taken down because of his brother. The taken brother works with mortal. This is what is felt like when I was first watching the movie. Everything was choppy, and it went from one thing to the other not letting anything sit for a moment. There's always those moments in movies where viewers have time to actually process what just happened. In Gods of Egypt, there was no processing time whatsoever. Bek (Brenton Thwaites) and Zaya (Courtney Eaton) are lovers that had everything planned. They were going to run away and live a life together. That is until they're God, Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) was taken down due to his brother's ravenous hunger for power. His brother, Set (Gerard Butler), then made the mortals his slaves and had taken Horus' eyes, which is why Horus teams up with Bek. So that he can get his eyes back, and Bek can be back with his lover, who has been killed. Now the movie wasn't that bad. There are plenty of action scenes that I didn't mind watching but the awkward placement of the humor was a little cheesy and not to the mention, I feel like half of the movie is special effects. It's not bad but there were some moments where I wished the producers knew how to clean up after themselves when it comes to using a green screen. The Gods even had crazy powers but then again this is Egyptian Gods like Ra, the God of Wisdom, the God of Love, and every other God that people know. To some viewers, it might be some awesome action movie with crazy special effects to tie in the story. To me, it was just a little bit rushed and a little cheesy for my taste.
*Rated PG-13 for fantasy violence and action, and some sexuality.
My Rating: B-
