We all know who Chucky is. He's that creepy doll that somehow makes it to all these families and ends up killing almost everybody except the children. He loves children. Well, in this movie, Chucky is a little younger looking and somewhat creepier.
Nica (Fiona Dourif) is a paraplegic who lives with her protective mom. It was until one strange day when her mother recieves a gift, and what do you know, Chucky is in the box! Viewers are able to get a bit of Nica's history when the delivery guy is hitting on her and that's just the beginning of the movie. One thing I liked about the movie is that the family's history was not just spilled in one scene. Viewers get to see how things happened like Nica's accident or the crazy affair her sister is going through. It was just interesting seeing the family all together because of a death and the series of death that follows afterwords. A few things that I can't help but criticize though. When things slow down, you expect the movie to somewhat be over soon. In Curse of Chucky, there was a random slowmo bit and it was kind of far from the ending, so I thought that was a little unnecessary. I guess build up in the middle of the movie is a trend now. Another thing is that Nica's family had invited a priest to the house due to the fact of her history, and so when they are having dinner, I can't help but notice that they tend to use the Lord's name in vain in front of him, which was strangely odd. The thing that got me the most was how predictable the movie is. Horror movies, I think, are the most predictable. You know what the actors are going to say. You know they are going into places where they shouldn't be going. It's that moment when viewers just want to yell at the TV screen saying "Don't go in that room!" It's kind of amusing actually figuring out what's going to happen but then there's that strange plot twist that surprises everybody especially those jump scares. Those got me including the dog. All in all, Curse of Chucky was entertaining but not as great as the first one. Just remember not to accept any strange packages.
*Rated R for bloody horror violence and language.
My Rating: B+
