Everybody knows Mt. Everest. It's the tallest mountain in the world; 29, 029 feet to be exact. It takes weeks just to reach the peak and even if people do try, they have to sign a waiver just because of the dangerous excursion they are about to endure. Along the excursion, people have to stop at bases to make sure they are acclimated to the thinning air. Oh and let's not forget Mother Nature. She may or may not bite you in the butt while you are up on the mountain, and if she does bite you, it can be nasty. And that's what happened in Everest. Well, a monster storm happened if you want to be technical. With an all star cast, it was kind of disbelieving to see that Jake Gyllenhaal didn't make it all the way. Or John Hawkes, but that's not how they're known in the movie. They're known as plain average men who wanted to scale the tallest mountain in the world. Too bad they didn't make it to the end of the movie. What made this movie interesting though was there wasn't exactly a main character. Viewers were able to see a couple different teams go up the mountain, and the trek they had to deal with, so the movie centered more on the journey than the characters. They were still able to learn a little about each character like why they were scaling Mt. Everest, but other than that, the producers made sure viewers didn't get too attached to one character for too long. Whether it was being snow blinded or having to deal with hypothermia, this movie definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. People died. People survived. Now are you sure you want to add climbing to the top of Mt. Everest to your bucket list?
*Rated PG-13 for intense, peril, and dangerous images.
