The Shallows

It's movies like these ones that make me not want to go swimming for a while. It's a good thing that it's Fall, because I'm not going swimming in the ocean for a long time.

Nancy (Blake Lively) finally made it to the beach where she was with her mother when she was a little girl. It's like a dream come true for her. The water is so blue, you can see right through it and see the reefs. The plants are so green, it's like being in a tropical island. Oh yeah and there's a shark that's ready to eat anything that steps into the water. Nancy was just doing her own thing when a shark comes out of nowhere and takes a big chomp out of her leg. As we all know, sharks are attracted to blood, so the plot of the movie is pretty self explanatory. She tries to fight off the shark while surviving off of no food and practically a leg on the verge of gangrene. This was an okay movie. I'm not going to lie: I cowered behind a pillow like a little girl, because this movie has a lot, and I mean, a LOT of jump scares, and it's mainly because the shark. The suspense gets the best of you sometimes. When you think the shark is going to come out of nowhere, it might actually pop up. If not, well then, that's awesome. If you do not like jump scares, do not, and I repeat, do not watch this movie unless you want those little jumps throughout the entire movie. One thing I really did like was her friend: a seagull. It was like a little sliver of hope for her, and since viewers get to know Nancy well throughout the movie, they learn that she was a former medical student and the seagull reminded her of her mom. Now that my heart has stopped pounding in my chest from the surprises, you can take a look at what my rate is :P

*Rated PG-13 for bloody images, intense sequences of peril, and brief strong language.

My Rating: B
