With the new Netflix show, I thought it would be cool to watch the movie before I dived into the actual series and maybe read the series all over again. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire (Emily Browning, Liam Aiken, and Kara and Shelby Hoffman) are not your ordinary children. They are children who have had the worst of luck anybody can imagine. Starting with their parents dying within a fire, the three have to go to a legal guardian they did not even know they were related to: Count Olaf (Jim Carrey.) With the help of Jim Carrey's comedic acting, A Series of Unfortunate Events had it's chuckle moments along with it's serious moments. The plot was carried out well from the Baudelaire stand point going from one legal guardian to the next and then finding themselves in one sticky situation after the other. The only thing: the acting in this movie is not so well thought out. With situations coming too early or too late, it was just a little bit too much. But who knew an inventor, a reader, and a biter would be the main characters in a range of terrible ordeals?
*Rated PG for thematic elements, scary situations, and brief language
My Rating: C+
