The Dark Tower

Tis the season of Stephen King's works and they're slowly losing their streak ever since It broke box office records.

So I have read the books and I'm sad to say The Dark Tower does not hold up well next to Stephen King's well loved series, but as a movie itself, The Dark Tower, amazes viewers. The movie follows the life of Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) who's been having strange dreams about a gunslinger, Roland (Idris Elba). What makes his dreams even weirder is the Dark Tower that radiates so much energy and the Man in Black. Who is this Man in Black? Only Roland knows as well as Jake but what is a kid in New York going to do about this weird sorcerer? I never really thought as the Dark Tower as an action movie, but apparently the producers made it really well as an action movie more than a scary or even creepy movie. It was really interesting seeing how Roland worked with Jake especially between the different worlds. There were moments though that seemed a little ridiculous making the action movie more sci-fi, which is a little weird even for a movie based off of a Stephen King book. All in all, this movie made me a little sad since I was excited to watch it because it was based off of my favorite Stephen King series but was kind of let down. But if you want to watch some cool action between Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba, this movie is for you.

*Rated PG-13 for thematic material including sequences of gun violence and action.

My Rating: B-
