Brightburn

Hey guys! I know it's been a minute since I've last written on Mango Bits but Movie of the Night: Brightburn!

In my little bit of research and help from a close friend, a new kind of horror is rising called superhero horror and I think I saw a portion of it while watching the Prodigy but this movie had more of the similarities of Superman but with a twist.

Brandon Breyer (Jackson A. Dunn) is not your typical young boy. He's turning 12 years old which means puberty or something else like a connection with the spaceship he came in when he landed on Earth. His parents, Tori (Elizabeth Banks) and Kyle (David Denman), think he's special for being on top of his class but when he starts getting mouthy and breaks a classmate's hand, things start taking a dark turn.

Once you get the similarities between Superman and Brandon, it makes you wonder what's the bad side? Welp. Just a fair warning: this movie has it's fair share of gore. Brandon's entire family go through death and it's not the old age kind of death. The pop up scares get a little predictable but at first it makes you wonder when the next scare is. Since I'm still getting used to the superhero horror genre rising, it was a roller coaster of one thing after another. It may not have a happily ever after but it was interesting from beginning to end.

*Rated R for language, gore, and intense scenes.

My Rating: B+
