Midsommar

Hey guys! How's it going? How was your 4th of July weekend? Mine was packed of family events and I'm just ready to write some more movie reviews. Anyways, Movie of the Day: Midsommar!

In this thriller, Ari Aster, the director of Hereditary, is back at it again, but this time with a group of friends who decide to go to Sweden for a little getaway. Dani (Florence Pugh) has gone through hell and back with her sister committing suicide and taking their parents with her. A trip to Sweden should have taken things off her mind, but it went the opposite.

You would think a trip to Sweden would involve a lot of friendly people and chocolate. Not for the four Americans that thought taking Shrooms was going to be the highlight of the trip. Not only were they introduced to a strange community, but slowly one by one, every one of the foreigners were going missing and ending up dead.

I definitely liked Aster's sequence with his movies. He dives into the psychological part deep and hard. Even when the characters are tripping on whatever, he makes the viewer feel like they are a part of the movie. The thing is he puts some unnecessary scenes that just makes the movie a little bit too long and dwells a little off the plot. You can tell the movie is based around Dani and her boyfriend, Christian (Jack Reynor) but there could have been a little bit more connection with the other characters and make more sense of what's going on.

Warning: There is a sexual scene. If you want to watch this with your kids, I highly suggest to not bring them. Not to mention the amount of language, but if it doesn't bother you, it's all good. It's great for the suspense and horror, but there might be curve balls that will surprise you.

*Rated R for language, sexual scenes, nudity, drug use, disturbing violence, and grisly images.

My Rating: B-
