Uncut Gems

Hey guys! The end of the year is upon us! I hope you all are doing okay and enjoying the holidays because I know I am. Anyways, Movie of the Day: Uncut Gems!

In this movie, Adam Sandler plays Howard Ratner, a jeweler looking for the next big hit. Except it wasn't until he got his hands on a precious gem that the famous Kenny Garnett couldn't help but feel entranced by it especially to his basketball games that Ratner starts to feel he can make big money. It doesn't help that he's always running into some old colleagues that are trying to collect from him as well as his dysfunctional family. Did I mention the movie takes place in New York so viewers were able to feel the chaos that Ratner emanated from his life? Yeah. There is a lot going on in this movie.

When I came to the theater to watch this, I did not know what I was going into, but when my friend explained to me what Uncut Gems was about, it captivated me but at the same time I had a feeling the movie was just that... entertaining. It was an interesting character study but at the same time, it was the relationships that the main character had that was a little hard to grasp. He has so many people going after him. It was difficult to even pick up who is who. It was interesting to watch how fast paced the movie got especially since Adam Sandler made himself sound like a New York Jew. At the same time, if you're someone who doesn't like movies that just talk, this might not be for you. I do have to admit the ending caught me off guard which is why my rating is a little higher but I was going to give the movie a C with how low of an entertainment it had. If you're into crime dramas then by all means, go for it but I'd rather stay at home and wait for the movie to hit Redbox before watching this in theaters.

*Rated R for language, sexual content, drug use, and violence
