Hey guys, how's your day going? I know it's been a little crazy out there so I thought I might as well watch something as crazy. So Movie of the Night from last night: Pet Semetary!
Based on one of Stephen King's novels, Pet Semetary follows Louis (played by Jason Clarke), Rachel (played by Amy Semetz), Ellie (played by Jete Laurence), and Gage moving to a tiny place in Maine as a brand new start away from Boston. It wasn't until their cat, Church, passed away that Louis found something interesting about the land they moved on. With the help of their neighbor, Jud (played by John Lithgow), Louis brings back Church. The thing was he wasn't the same Church they had when they first moved there. The same thing happens when Ellie gets hit by a truck on her ninth birthday.
It has been a long time since I've read the book so I don't think I would have remembered what would have happened. On a scale of creepy, Pet Semetary is up there. There was only one jump scare but because of the suspense, I was just waiting for something to jump out. The music does make one think there is going to be a jump scare though. I do like how Stephen King's setting is around an isolated place so Jud was an interesting character to follow as he tells Louis about this sacred land, but it also made me think Louis' logic as he tries bringing back Ellie. Even though that may be the only critique about this movie, I actually really liked it. So if you're thinking of a horror movie night, this is the movie to watch.
*Rated R for language, horror violence, and bloody images
