Shrek

Hey guys, how's your day going? Happy new year! 2020 came and went... a little bit slowly than we wanted to but it's over. Let's welcome 2021 with some positivity and a blast from the past: Movie of the Night: Shrek!

In this classic Dreamworks film, Shrek (voiced by Michael Myers) is your typical ogre who just wants to be alone and do things his own way. It doesn't help that a talking donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) ruined it as well as Lord Farquaad (voiced by John Lithgow) by restricting the fairy tale creatures from living their normal every day lives. With the help of Princess Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz), Shrek finally gets to be understood and maybe have a little bit more.

It has been a minute since I last saw this movie. When I was younger, I used to have the VHS version and would just rewind it and watch it over and over until the tape would break. Ah good times. Anyways, we've all been at that point in our lives where we just want to be understood whether it be our parents, friends, or just people in general. Shrek is that same onion only with different layers and with Donkey as that awkward/weird friend, it helps him realize he doesn't have to be completely alone to be content with his life. Princess Fiona, on the other hand, is a princess who has planned for her knight and shining armor to arrive and when Shrek didn't want her gone, he just kept shoving the feeling of companionship down. It just comes to show you don't have to be completely alone to be happy with your life.

*Rated PG for strong language and crude humor

My Rating: B
