Hey guys! How's it going? I've noticed a lot of new movies coming out this year and a few already caught my eye. So with that being said what movies are you excited for? Are you going to watch them in theaters or are you going to stream them from the comfort of your own home? Anyways because of the brand new movies coming out, I've been catching myself going to older movies. I know. I'm weird. So without further ado, Movie of the Night: Interview With a Vampire!
In the 2000's there was a moment when vampires would sparkle. But according to lore and myth, vampires never sparkled. They were far more intimidating and monstrous than the Cullens. For Louis de Pointe du Lac (played by Brad Pitt) being a vampire was little bit more than difficult. After being attacked by Lestat de Lioncourt (played by Tom Cruise), Louis had the option to die or become a vampire and with the latter, Louis was having difficulty containing his hunger. It wasn't until he preyed on a young girl named Claudia (played by Kirsten Dunst) that the two had a bit on their hands.
This has always been my ultimate favorite movie and after years of not watching it, there are a couple things I can't help but think about. First off, the vampires are in front of plenty of mirrors and in myths, vampires don't have reflections so that was one of my let downs. Another was when the Black Plague happened. Now history wasn't my strong subject in school, but based on what I researched, the plague occurred in the 14th century yet the movie was taking place in the 1700s. Unless the plague lasted for a few centuries, I'm a little confused. Other than that, I always liked the theatrics of this movie. The renaissance feel since the main characters are older than what they appear. The beauty of immortality. Not to mention I can't turn a blind eye on the all star cast. Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Antonio Banderas? I don't know about you but they make an interesting cast for an oldie but goodie.
*Rated R for violence, gore, and sexuality
My Rating: B+
