Raya and the Last Dragon

Hey guys! How's your Monday going? Mine has been dragging. It's my weekend though so I am glad I can kick back my feet and enjoy it. So Movie of the Night: Raya and the Last Dragon!

In the land of Kumandra, dragons exist except there's only one left and it's up to Raya (voiced by Kelly Marie Tran) to find the last one. 500 years ago an old smoky enemy, the Druun, petrified anyone who came into it's path and turn them into stone. The dragons had to use all of their energy to create an orb to get rid of them though. It wasn't until a tribe tried stealing the orb that it broke releasing the Druun which lead Raya to search for Susi (voiced by Awkwafina). Raya does her best to protect herself and puts her trust in people she wouldn't have thought of putting her trust in.

This movie review has taken some time to write for some reason. I think it's because I actually enjoyed this movie. The thing is I just don't like how some headlines are saying this movie is the first Disney movie to have the first southeast Asian in it. While it is intriguing to see another strong and powerful Asian lead, I think it was hilarious that her colleague is an armadillo or the fact the food in this movie looks so delicious. Aside from that, it was interesting watching Raya travel around with a sassy voiced dragon. All in all, enjoyable movie and be prepared a twist in the ending for sure.

*Rated PG for PG for violence, action, and thematic events

My Rating: B
