Hey guys! How's it going? I was about to post this last Saturday but I got a little busy. Anyways, I've been going back to oldies yet goodies so without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: Beetlejuice!
In this classic Tim Burton film, Barbara and Adan Maitland (played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) are trying to enjoy their staycation. That is until they got into a car accident which kills them forcing them to live in their house in the afterlife. Fast forward a bit and the Deetz family has moved in their place making it a little unwelcoming to the Maitlands. The goth daughter, Lydia (played by Winona Ryder), is able to see them and doesn't mind the company. But with her dad about to suffer another nervous breakdown and trying his best to relax and her stepmother trying to release her inner creativity, they don't really understand her behavior on why she enjoys them. After experiencing a ghostly experience with the Maitlands, the Deetz invite their coworkers from New York to the countryside of Winter River, Connecticut. With the help from the bio-exorcist Beetlejuice (played by Michael Keaton) though, the Maitlands scare the Deetz family maybe for good.
This movie has always been an all time favorite of mine (next to Matilda of course) because there's just so many aspects that makes it good in my book. I always thought Beetlejuice was fascinating not just because of the creepy factor but the comedy. Michael Keaton does an amazing job portraying a crazy dead guy. Viewers also get to see the claymation as the Maitlands do their best to scare the Deetz family away. I have always been interested on how producers make their movies and actually seeing some of it in their work is just so intriguing. The humor can be a bit crude so if you are watching this with a little one, they may not understand some of the funny lines but of course, there are some parts that make us laugh like shrimp cocktails coming to life. Anyways, even though it's the middle of April, it's always spooky time especially for Beetlejuice. Just be careful to not say his name three times!
*Rated PG for crude humor, language, and creepy images and scenes
My Rating: A
