Matilda

Hey guys! How's your day going? Mine has been a bit long but I wanted to make sure I got to this review before I went to bed or at least got too exhausted. Anywho, want a blast from the past? Movie of the Night from the other night: Matilda!

Based on Roald Dahl's classic book, Matilda (played by Mara Wilson) was raised in a family who didn't fully appreciate her. Her father, Harry Wormwood (played by Danny DeVito), spent his time at work selling used cars for unfair prices. Her mother didn't even bother connecting with her and forget about her brother. Her only escape: books and school. Her teacher, Miss Honey (played by Embeth Davidtz) made it even more difficult to leave school since she made learning even more fun. The thing is the principal is a mean lady who puts children in a hole in the wall called the Chokey and even throws the children whenever they don't please her in any way shape or form. It wasn't until Matilda realized she had more to her than she realized and decided to use her powers for good.

This movie has always been one of my favorites ever since I was little girl. As a bookworm, I may also be a little biased. Matilda's love for books is a great escape especially for her family situation. It's also hilarious seeing Danny DeVito with blonde hair since he deserved it. I remember when I was younger I loved school. I still do so her passion for learning is just a feel good feeling as well as the relationship she has with her teacher. The movie is a bit outdated so there are a few cheesy parts especially when Matilda gets her powers but viewers don't see strings which makes it a little better but still somewhat cheesy. Matilda is definitely a blast from the past so if you want to put something on for family night, this is definitely the movie to put on!

*Rated PG for exaggerated meanness and ridicule and language

My Rating: A
