Mortal Kombat

Hey guys! Sorry about skipping this past Monday. I just got a little busy since things are picking up at work. Anyways, I managed to watch Mortal Kombat Sunday and despite the mixed reviews, I still went and watched it in theaters so without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: Mortal Kombat!

Cole Young (played by Lewis Tan) is a MMA fighter but he didn't know his family lineage was made up of fighters so when he encounters Sub-Zero (played by Joe Taslim) for the first time he realizes there is so much more than what he knows. With the help from Sonya Blade (played by Jessica McNamese) and another champion named Kano (played by Josh Lawson) he makes his way to Lord Raiden's (played by Tadanobu Asano) temple to train to keep Earth safe.

Keep in mind: I haven't completely watched the entirety of the first movie but because I try to keep an open mind while watching movies I pushed that movie out of my mind while watching this one. Anyways, I don't know how lightly I should word this: Kano carried the movie for a good minute mainly with his snarky comments (which I guess is the comedic element of the movie). As for the gore and violence, it was not that bad when it comes to the gore meter. Of course, this movie is rated R for the violence and blood but it starts from the get-go so don't be surprised. I also try to not have high expectations when going to the movies. I was just expecting a little bit more "Fatalities" and "Finishing moves." I did used to play the arcade games so it was actually pretty funny hearing "Finish him" or "Flawless Victory" come from the characters especially from one of my favorite characters. Hint hint: he wears a huge hat. All in all, not a bad movie but don't be too satisfied after walking out of the theater.

*Rated R for bloody violence, gore, and language

My Rating: B-
