Hey there! Happy September and Labor Day! I know I haven't been posting that much this past week. I was actually busy settling into my new place! :D But I will be catching you guys up on some of the newest movies I have been watching including Free Guy! But Movie of the Night from last night: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings!
Shaun (played by Simu Liu) enjoys working valet with his best friend Katy (played by Awkwafina), but it wasn't until he started getting bothered by his father's henchmen that he was being summoned to help his dad. The thing is his dad has the power of the Ten Rings, mystical weapons that cause massive destruction when under the wrong hands. With the help from Katy and his badass sister, Xialing (played by Meng'er Zhang), they go Ta Lo, his mother's village, to not only learn more about themselves but to stop Xu Wenwu (played by Tony Chiu-Wai Leung) from letting some Evil into the world.
Is it weird to say I did not watch a single preview for this movie? I was offered to watch it so I went with it, but I knew it was part of the Marvel universe based on posters. But other than that, I did not know what to expect from this movie but I enjoyed it very much so. As part of the Marvel universe, I do have to say the language is a little bit more than I expected so if you do have little ones, you have been warned. As for the other half of the population that did not disappear due to Thanos, it seems like people are not as affected and are just living their regular day-to-day lives. The special effects definitely made the movie seem out of this world though, and they were definitely breathtaking! Did I mention there's a dragon? If you know me, I love me some dragons :) Besides the beautiful scenery, the quirkiness from the characters balanced the action especially since Awkwafina is in it. If you haven't seen this woman act before, check out Raya and the Last Dragon and Crazy Rich Asians. She did kind of overshadow Shaun a bit though but that didn't deter the movie from blowing my mind and doing some self reflection.
*Rated PG-13 language, violence and action
My Rating: A
