Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Hey guys! How's your new year going? Mine is going. So one of my resolutions is to be more consistent with my movie reviews since I've been a little all over the place with them but because I watch so many movies, it's not like I don't have movies to rate. Anyways, Movie of the Night from the other night: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island!

Sean Anderson (played by Josh Hutcherson) is still getting used to Hank (played by Dwayne Johnson) being his stepfather. Since he's trying to distract himself from Hank, he ends up going deeper into his family tree. Sean soon realizes his grandfather, Vernian Alexander (played by Michael Caine), is somewhere he was just adventuring in not too long ago. This time though, in order to reach his grandfather, Sean has to go to the mythical place of Atlantis. With the help from Hank, a spunky tour guide and his gorgeous daughter, Sean learns a lot more of his stepdad.

I vaguely remember watching the first Journey to the Center of the Earth a long time ago but for some reason, I was wondering why Dwayne Johnson was in this one when I thought Brendan Frasier was in the last movie. The consistency just throws me off, but anyways, Journey 2 is an entertaining movie to watch with the family and silly but it's just that: entertaining. The CGI reminds me of the special effects of when I was first watching science fiction movies. Not exactly real life looking but a little hazy. It makes me think of the props they used in the movie as well. An example is finding Captain Nemo's journal which was submerged in the middle of the Pacific for quite some time and yet it looks brand new. Maybe it's just me paying attention to weird portions of the movie but those parts just throw me off. Other than the interesting portions of adventuring, the movie is nothing too special to remember especially since it is somewhat older. It's not too old though so if you're still interested on watching it, it is on Netflix.

*Rated PG for adventure action and brief language
