Hey guys! How's it going? Crazy how this year just went by! It was just earlier this year when I rated Encanto and now, Avatar 2: The Way of Water!
It has been over 10 years since the humans invaded Pandora and the Na'vi fought and protected their home. One of the Na'vi, Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) is chief and has a family with Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldana). He has two sons, Neteyem (played by Jamie Flatters), Lo'ak (played by Britain Dalton), their adopted daughter Kiri (played by Sigourney Weaver), and his biological daughter Tuk (played by Trinity Jo-Li Bliss). Oh and let's not forget Spider (played by Jack Champion). The thing with the Sully's is that they are always together, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. The bad thing is humans are coming back to Pandora to colonize and the first ones are combatants - deceased marines in the form of Na'vi. In order to protect his family, Jake ends up exiling himself and his family from the Omaticaya and seeks refuge with the water Na'vi, Metkayina reef people. From there, the family learns the ways of the Metkayina and even bond with the ocean and it's creatures. Sounds like paradise, no? In the world of Pandora, there are scary things and the humans are just a part of them.
It has been a while since I saw the first Avatar, so I had to do a lot of research on just Jake Sully alone. It's somewhat coming back to me, but I definitely have to rewatch it. Anyways, where do I begin with James Cameron's sequel? It is hauntingly beautiful and I'm not saying that just because I watched it in 3D. It is gorgeous with all the vibrant colors and the details on the animals are just magnificent. I do have to say though, as a gamer, the motions of the Na'vi kind of reminded me of the CGI that helped create this world. It was like watching a video game on the big screen, but it was fluid enough to keep me in the movie mindset. I'm pretty sure someone can get motion sickness just watching the Na'vi fly through the treetops. As for the story, I was engrossed from beginning to end. The three hours and 12 minute duration of this movie wasn't too bad, but I am letting you know now, if you do watch this in the theater, make sure to not drink too much of your beverage. And trust me, you're going to want to watch this on the big screen (and maybe on a 4k television set).
*Rated PG-13 for intense action, language, and partial nudity
My Rating: A+
