Hey guys, how's it going? I know. An oldie but goodie. I was on Disney+ and stumbled upon this movie I used to have on VHS. Either you know or you don't know, because back then, I thought this was a pretty good movie and I still do. So without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: Freaky Friday!
How would you feel if you swapped bodies with your mom? This is what happened to Tess and Anna Coleman (played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan respectively). Rebellious teenager Anna thinks her mother is out to get her either because of her rock band, her bad grades, or the fact that she falls for a guy who is completely out of her age group. Tess is trying though especially since she is a psychologist and makes sure her children are warming up to Ryan (played by Mark Harmon), the new soon-to-be father and husband to the family. It wasn't until they were at their favorite Chinese food restaurant that things start to get freaky. With a crack of a fortune cookie, Anna and Tess swap bodies and it's up to them to figure out how to get back into their own bodies before the wedding.
We all hear the saying "You should try being in their shoes." This movie takes that line literally and just makes me giggle, because some people actually try doing that and still don't understand why the other person is being the way they are. Not to say, I haven't tried doing it with my mom but it's all about understanding the other person, and Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan do an amazing job at that. I think the best scene is when Anna and her band have an audition at the House of Blues and at the time, Tess is in her body and has no idea how to play the guitar so she just butchers the song until Anna comes along. If you can't imagine Jamie Lee Curtis playing the guitar like a badass, this is the scene to watch even though the camera doesn't fully show her doing the guitar solo. I almost forgot this was a Disney movie so coming upon it on Disney+ almost caught me off guard. Anyways, if you want a feel good movie with a slice of comedy, drama, and cringy (I completely forgot low rise jeans was the trend back then), this is your go-to movie.
*Rated PG for language and mild thematic elements
