Hey guys, how's it going? I know it's not Saturday but I was a little preoccupied. I really wanted to write this review though, because Spooky Season is coming and I had to launch it by watching the Haunted Mansion! Not only is it one of my favorite rides at Disneyland, but it was one of my favorite Disney movies! So without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: The Haunted Mansion!
In Louisiana, single mom Gabbie (Played by Rosario Dawson) and her son, Travis (Played by Chase Dillon) move into a haunted mansion however they didn't know that at first. It was soon after though that they realize they couldn't just leave it behind. So with the help from tour guide Ben Matthias (played by LaKeith Stanfield), Father Kent (played by Owen Wilson), Professor Bruce Davis (played by Danny DeVito), and psychic Harriet (played by Tiffany Haddish), they find the dark spirits haunting the place. The question is: is one of them going to survive by the end of it?
Once upon a time, there was a Haunted Mansion movie but it was released in 2003 and Eddie Murphy was the main character. Raise your hand if you watched it. Believe it or not, I actually enjoyed the original so I was a little wary on this one, but I really enjoyed it! Not just because of the silliness of it, but it reminded me of the Disneyland ride and the times I would go over to Louisiana to see family. Did I mention the crawfish is delicious over there? Anyways, don't get me started on the all star crew that was involved in this movie either, because I may have wanted to watch it just because of Owen Wilson and Danny DeVito haha. If you have ridden the ride, they did not omit anything from the elongating room you first enter to the wife who killed her husband to the busts that follow you around. It was fascinating following the characters through the mansion and experience the frightening moments they had including Travis speaking to his dad. Oh yeah. That's an interesting story in itself. I know once this movie hits Disney + I'm going to be playing it more than once.
*Rated PG-13 for scary action and thematic elements
My Rating: B
