Hey guys! How's it going? Merry Christmas Eve Eve! It's also the last Saturday of 2023 so the next time you will see a movie review post will be next year! Unfortunately I haven't been watching a lot of newer movies in theaters, so I might be ringing in a movie from a streaming service. So if you have any recommendations, let me know! I have a To Watch list but I'm always open to add more to the list! Anyways, without further ado, Movie of the Day: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom!
Arthur Curry AKA Aquaman (playe by Jason Momoa) is back in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom juggling the responsibilities as King of Atlantis and fatherhood but when David Kane AKA Black Manta (played by Yahya Abdul- Mateen) discovers a black trident and gets possessed, he seeks revenge on the person who killed his father. Aquaman not only gathers help from the Atlanteans, a cephalopod named Topo, he also breaks out his brother Orm (played by Patrick Wilson) from prison to catch Manta. Arthur may be having difficulties with the responsibilities he gained but he's not backing down from any of them no matter how exhausting they can be.
I was very curious about this movie because if you remember earlier this year there was a certain case involving Amber Heard and Johnny Depp and based on my research, she had very limited participation in the film because of the case. Despite all that mess, I actually enjoyed this movie. The special effects had my eyes all over the big screen especially with Aquaman's new comrade, Topo. I was also curious about him playing a musical instrument because apparently he can play music. The entire underwater world of Atlantis is still pretty astounding with all the pretty lights and such. Did I mention there's a lost kingdom which happens to be near Antarctica? The only part of the movie I had to nitpick was when Aquaman and the Atlanteans came to ambush Mantis at Necrus and Aquaman called whales to counteract David's echo. I might not be an icthyologist but I'm pretty sure no orca or any type of whale will tolerate the cold Antarctic waters. All in all, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was entertaining to watch with Arthur's witty references and the intense action both on land and sea on the big screen. If you do decide to wait, I'm pretty sure it will be on a streaming service shortly after the new year.
My Rating: B
Rated PG-13 for language and violence
