Hey guys! How's it going? Welp. Here we are! The last Saturday of 2023. I would do a Top 10 Movie rank but movies this year have not been their best. I might still do one but I'm not sure if there'll be 10 movies. Anyways, Movie of the Night from the other night: R.I.P.D!
Nick Walker (played by Ryan Reynolds) is your average American cop, however when on the job, he gets killed by his coworker. While waiting for judgment, Nick is recruited to the R.I.P.D (Rest in Peace Department). Not only does he get partnered to a Mr. Roy Pulsipher (played by Jeff Bridges) but he also has to find criminals that are not exactly part of the world he knows. It's up to Nick to keep his head on straight while processing that he's dead but he may have been close to a monster while he was still alive.
I saw this movie pop up on Netflix and thought why not? I watched this movie a long time ago (2013 to be exact) and I enjoyed it, but I was an impressionable teenager at the time, so my opinion changed a bit throughout time. Although it was interesting entering the sci-fi world that is the dead walking around, R.I.P.D was an entertaining watch that could have been put on as background noise. I forgot Ryan Reynolds is a little bit more serious in this movie but I didn't mind it since the comedic one was Jeff Bridges. Even then, his comedic lines were a little bit forced making the movie a little hard to watch. The special effects were interesting too. Because of the time this movie came out, I didn't expect them to be mindblowing but the monsters didn't look too bad. All in all, R.I.P.D is a good movie for the kids and maybe considered something light to watch. Like I mentioned though, this movie is available through Netflix so the next time you're browsing, check it out! Until then, see you guys next year!
*Rated PG-13 for violence, action, some sensuality, language
My Rating: C
