Gran Turismo

Hey guys! How's it going? Happy New Year! We made it to 2024! I was actually entering the new year watching this movie and I thought it would make a great first movie review. So without further ado, Movie of the Night: Gran Turismo!

Based off of a true story, Gran Turismo brings together underdogs who would prove that videogames can actually teach people a real lesson. In this case: racecar driving. Jann Mardenborough (played by Archie Madekwe) has always been a huge fan of the game made by Kazanori Yamauchi, and he not only wanted to prove to his dad that he can be taken seriously but he can do something with the passion he knows he has. With the help from a former driver, Jack Slater (played by David Harbour) and marketing executive Danny Moore (played by Orlando Bloom), Jann is trained to play with the big boys and make history.

I may have played Gran Turismo when I used to go to the arcade but I may have not known it was Gran Turismo, so I kind of knew what I was expecting from this movie but I was not expecting it to be so... captivating. From getting to know each character to the character development, it all sucked me in. Not to mention, it does get pretty intense especially when crashes are involved. If you don't recall, Vegas held Formula 1 last year making it incredibly hard for locals to enjoy the Strip, but I couldn't help but think about that when starting the movie. Of course, drivers in the movie weren't battling the weather but other drivers and their own limitations. It did throw me off when Jann would treat the race as part of the game, because when he does think about which rank he's at, the movie would make the ping noise making me think the PlayStation was pausing itself. All in all, this movie is not only interesting to racers but to anyone who is looking for a great underdog story. Gran Turismo is on Netflix so if you are looking for something to watch, give it a shot!

Rated PG-13 for language and intense action

My Rating: A+
