Elemental

Hey guys! How's it going? Sorry about not posting much this month. It has been one thing after another and I have not been able to have the time to sit down and write a movie review even though I have been watching movies. Anyways, I was able to watch this one while family was in town and so Movie of the Night from the other night: Elemental!

It's been said that elements don't mix but in Element City, it's mainly just the fire elements that seem to not mix well. As for Ember Lumen (voiced by Leah Lewis) she knows her fiery personality can get in the way of things especially if she is to own her father's store however it wasn't until one day when she couldn't control her temper that caused a series of water damage that made her rethink her possibilities of her future. With an unexpected partner, Wade Ripple (voiced by Mamoudou Athie), a water element, she tries to fix her wrongdoings but in the event of things, she can't help but feel emotions for Wade.

It's been a minute since I've watched a cute Pixar movie and Elemental definitely hits in the cute department. If not in the romantic kind of way but in the familial way. Ember is not exactly looking for a partner since she is trying her best to gain her father's trust so that she can get the store, but it's her not getting along with the customers that makes me empathize for her. I've had a customer service job and if anyone who had to deal with difficult customers knows the amount of patience you need for customer service is immeasurable. Anybody can be a salesman but if you can't connect with the job per se then it's going to be a difficult journey. The amount of pressure she's under too is another thing I can attest to. Every child wants to make their parents proud but sometimes it can feel like the world is on their shoulders. I am not trying to ignore the Wade aspect of this movie, but it is a nice way of putting "What am I doing to myself?" With all these new Disney movies deviating from love between the main characters, I like how this one wasn't forced upon. It just happened kind of naturally which is why I am not against the romance aspect of the movie. If you know me, I do not exactly watch much romance movies. Anyways, this movie is on Disney + so if you do want to give it a shot, go for it! It might make a great movie for the next movie night with your family!

*Rated PG for thematic events, language, and peril moments

My Rating: B
