Hey guys! How's it going? I know. I know. I have been inconsistent af, but to be honest, this first quarter of 2024 has been nothing but one thing after another, but I can say I saw a movie in the theaters in the midst of it all. So without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: Kung Fu Panda 4!
The Dragon Warrior, Po (voiced by Jack Black), is back at it in this Kung Fu Panda sequel, but he has to pick a successor to replace him so that he can be the next Spiritual Adviser to the next Dragon Warrior. Unfortunately, Po doesn't want things to change. He just wants to have it all while eating dumplings at his comfort. Of course, that wasn't going to happen with a new nemesis on the rise. With the help from a thieving fox, Po goes on a journey to not only figure out what to do with his future but to take down an enemy that has his old foes coming back from the spiritual realm.
I'm not going to lie: The moment I heard Jack Black cover Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" I knew I had to watch the movie. I don't care if I was the only adult in the movie theater, but in actuality, the movie isn't that bad. It's funny, quirky, and I love it! The story was captivating, and the fact that Awkwafina is in it also made me want to watch it. She does play an interesting character that I suspected was going to be the next Dragon Warrior from the get go, but it was still an interesting journey to watch. There are references from the other movies, so if you do want to watch it with your kids, I highly suggest catching up on the first three since there are some familiar faces coming back. Unfortunately, the Furious Five isn't included in this one, but they do have a scene at the very end that'll make everyone want to enjoy. It was nice to see it on the big screen, but I wouldn't have mind waiting it to go to a streaming service. So if you want to save the money, go for it.
*Rated PG for action, mild violence, and scary images
