Hey there! How's it going guys? I was scrolling through Netflix and found this little number and thought might as well since I just read the book not too long ago. So without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: The Great Gatsby!
In the Roaring Twenties, Jay Gatsby (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is Nick Carraway's (played by Tobey Maguire) mysterious neighbor who throws lavish parties and soirees with people he doesn't even know. Little does Nick know they are for his cousin, Daisy Buchanan (played by Carey Mulligan) who happens to be married to Tom Buchanan (played by Joel Edgerton), a well known man. Caught in the middle of the love triangle, Nick is just trying to stay afloat within the Big Apple, or should I say, West Egg.
I know I reviewed this movie a long time ago when I first started my movie reviews - Back when it was just a long post on Facebook. And I still stand by with my rating which was an A+. After rereading the book and watching the movie, it was like a nostalgia moment. Enjoying the scenes that were almost identical to the book. Of course, there were moments that don't exactly match Scott Fitzgerald's work, but it's still pretty close. Not to mention, the Old Sport of it all, Mr. Jay Gatsby has an interesting tale to tell in Nick's eyes. All in all, a great interpretation of a love story, deception, and murder. If I could watch this movie on the big screen again, I totally would.
Rated PG-13 for violent images, language, partying, sexual content, and smoking
