Turning Red

Hey guys! How's it going? I know I've been reviewing a bit more children's movies lately but it's also because I've been having a Disney moment as well as taking care of a preteen so I thought she would like this particular one. So Movie of the Night from the other night: Turning Red!

Meilin Lee (voiced by Rosalie Chiang) is a 13-year-old who wants to do everything she wants to do including helping her mother however when Mei wants to see a boy band and her mom says no, something awkward happens: She turns into a red panda. Mei has to learn how to keep her emotions in check while trying to figure out a way to get into the concert without her parents knowing. What can happen?

It has been a moment since I've watched a turning of age movie, so watching this one made me realize how awkward it can get especially when the child is trying to explain their problems to their parents. Obviously, this movie is more aimed towards the girls but when I was watching this while babysitting, I noticed it wasn't exactly entertaining for neither of us. It does have it's cute moments especially since the main character does turn into a red panda but there are moments that make it more awkward then a learning experience. An example is when her mom is trying to figure out what is wrong with Mei and humiliates her in front of her friends as well as a boy she had a crush on. This movie is on Disney + but if you are looking for a movie to watch during family night, I'm sure there's something a little better then this one.

Rated PG for language, thematic material, and suggestive content

My Rating: B
