Hey guys! How's it going? How's 2025 treating you? Mine has been eventful. That's for sure. Anyways, I know I started with a somewhat recent movie that just came out in theaters so I thought I might as well jump to the past especially to one I really have been wanting to watch so without further ado, Movie of the Night: Big Fish!
William Bloom (played by Billy Crudup) is about to be a father, and if he's going to be one, he's got to reconnect with his own except Edward Bloom (played Albert Finney) is dying, and he has a way when it comes to telling stories about his life. Will just doesn't like how Edward seems to embellish the truth a little bit too much, and even though he doesn't want to hear them, Edward goes into it and the adventures are a whirlwind to soak in.
I don't know how long I have been wanting to watch this movie, because 1) Tim Burton's work is just awe-inspiring and 2) I've heard really good things about this movie. I also didn't realize how many well known people are in this film. I mean Jessica Lange? I was introduced to her via American Horror Story and to see her so young is just baffling. Not to mention, Ewan McGregor! Holy cow! But enough of the all star cast... On to the actual story and it's definitely something to watch. I know what it's like to be estranged to a parent but to this degree is crazy, because Will knows he shouldn't be mad at his dad for telling far fetched truths but to find out they are actually true is funny. Especially when he starts digging deeper into them like talking to the witch. Which by the way, Helena Bonham Carter looked like a baby! I don't mean to gush on the actors and actresses but they did such an amazing job portraying the people Edward mentioned in his stories, it was strange to see them in the "real world." And watching Will reconnect with his dad slowly but surely is just whole hearted and it made me tear up. I'm not going to lie haha. I wish I could have seen this movie on the big screen, because I bet it was amazing to see not only the all star cast when they were young but this story of embellished tales light up an entire theater.
*Rated PG-13 for mild nudity, mild violence and gore, mild language, and some mild frightening and scary scenes
My Rating: A+
