Hey guys! How's it going? I know. It has been a minute. The holidays slammed me pretty hard and not to mention a much needed mental health break from everything that has been going on in my life. Anyways, Happy New Year! I hope it has been a good one for you all. But here's to new movies and maybe some old ones I've never seen haha. So without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: Sonic the Hedgehog 3!
Sonic the Hedgehog is back again! Except this time he has a couple more friends and a brand new foe he has never encountered before. Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) is living the life with Donut Lord Tom Wachowski (played by James Marsden), his wife Pretzel Lady (played by Tika Sumpter), his buddies Tails (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessy) and Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba). So when a new experiment gets out and goes by the name of Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves), Sonic has a lot to learn and not just of his powers but to also work with a team especially if it includes Doctor Eggman himself (played by Jim Carrey).
I'm not going to lie: I kind of forgot what happened in the previous movie so when they did mention about the crystal that gave Sonic his extra boost with his powers, I was a little confused. I have also never followed the original stories when it came to these little furry superheroes, so to hear that Shadow's origin story stuck to it was pretty impressive. I also did not realize Keanu Reeves was the voice of Shadow until the very end when I was looking at the credits. The shock on my face was probably priceless haha. Jim Carrey has again tried carrying the weight of the movie, but it might be the millenial in me just enjoying his jokes and silliness. He has definitely fulfilled Eggman's duty and to see his fate was something else, because I was not expecting that ending. For a kid's movie, it's not that bad. I did wish I got to watch it at home, since it has been a minute since I've been to the theaters but I'm glad I got to see it on the big screen. So if you're looking for a good movie to watch with the kids, I highly recommend this one... After you watch the first couple movies.
*Rated PG for action, violence, rude humor, thematic elements, and mild language
My Rating: B
