Bruce Almighty

Hey guys! How's it going? I have been watching a lot of movies on Netflix for a while and the movies I am coming across are older than my cats haha. It seems a little weird, but then again, I'm still trying to figure out what kind of movies Netflix is trying to keep on their services besides their own originals. So without further ado, Movie of the Night from the other night: Bruce Almighty!

Bruce Nolan (played by Jim Carrey) thinks he has a hard life: trying to make anchor at his job, his dog won't stop peeing on the couch, his coworkers ridiculing him because he likes to joke around a bit, but when he has a loving girlfriend who supports him no matter what, shouldn't that change his mindset? Not really. It wasn't until he was called by God (played by Morgan Freeman) and was bestowed his powers that Bruce can get everything he wanted. He just can't mess with free will. What can go wrong?

I normally don't gravitate towards these kinds of movies, but Jim Carrey has always been a favorite actor of mine and he doesn't fail in this one no matter cynical he is towards himself. At least to his own character and what's weird was that I was shown this movie as I was going through some tough life problems. So maybe it's a good thing I watched this movie? I don't know. It definitely made me grateful for the things I do have since once Bruce gets God's powers, he did everything and anything that he wanted like getting new clothes and getting his dream job. It was when his girlfriend, Grace (played by Jennifer Aniston), got hurt by him being selfish made him reflect on what truly mattered in life. The God aspect is interesting, but it just made me think that a lot of people have all sorts of power especially when it comes to people they love. I'm not going to list the wisdom that oozed off this movie, but I am going to say, because of my upbringing, it was little comforting to watch this movie. Anyways, if you are looking for something silly and serious at the same time, check it out on Netflix.

*Rated PG-13 for language, some sexual content and crude humor
